Machines are especially sensitive to corrosive gasses caused by fire, as they have many unprotected metal surfaces. Surfaces which are normally dry and polished often oxidise shortly after a fire. This is the beginning of a corrosive process which will destroy the machine if it is not determined properly.

Restoration of machines
Correct control of secondary damages ensures that one maintains the possibility of restoring the equipment. AREPA's restoration process always implicates a complete disassembly of the machine in order to remove all corrosion and corrosive substances. This is necessary because smoke and other gasses have access to all surfaces of the equipment.

Primary damage like melted plastic parts, cracked painting, broken coverings, defective wedge drive etc. are repaired when restoring. It is often necessary to renew the bearings in the machine as a result of the fire. Some choose to have wearing parts replaced at the same time or rebuild the machine, when it is out of operation and disassembled anyway.

After re-assembly of the machine is tested as far as possible and, when needed, AREPA call for specialist support to service the equipment. Through the years AREPA has build up a large network of sub-suppliers to support almost any type of machines. Restoration of machines can be carried out on-site or in our centres depending on the situation on the damage place. The restoration is most efficiently carried out in our own workshop where the facilities and materials are at hand. But the size of the machines, the number, the extent of the damage, the costs and time of transportation etc. could mean that one chooses to carry out the restoration on-site. Finally the restoration can be a combination of restoration on-site and in the workshop.

In cooperation with our sister company AREPA Test & Calibration we carry out measurement and control of machine functions. For example it is useful to know that the constructions of the machines are not deformed before beginning of the restoration or, that machines with narrow tolerances cannot fulfil the specifications after restoration.
